About the Sydney Mozart Society

The Sydney Mozart Society was founded by David Worobin OAM in 1950. The Society is a non-profit enterprise run by a volunteer, annually elected, committee. We receive no external funding. While the Society is dedicated to the promotion and performance of music by Mozart and other masters of the ‘Golden Age’ of music, we do extend our offerings by including works by composers outside these limits.

A totally non-profit Society

Sydney Mozart Society operates on not-for-profit, member-funded and member-volunteer lines, being managed by a committee elected annually by its members. Because of the Society’s low overhead (there are no paid staff) both members and the general public are able to enjoy world standard performances at remarkably low cost.

Mozart and much more

Although the Society is primarily dedicated to the performance of the works of W.A. Mozart, the music of Mozart's contemporaries and other composers of the 18th and 19th centuries are well represented in the Society's concert programmes.

Six concerts are presented annually and recorded by 2MBS-FM for later broadcast. The Society also encourages the recording by Australian artists of the works of Mozart and has sponsored the production of CDs by 'Tall Poppies' of Mozart's wind quartets and quintet, oboe and clarinet quintets as well as the Brahms clarinet quintet. These CDs are available to members at the discounted price of $20 each.

The Society was also pleased to assist in the expansion of the Mozart section of the music library of the University of NSW through its gift of the New Mozart Edition, a comprehensive collection of his works, accessible to the general public.
