Programme Notes

In this programme Sonus Piano Quartet with Simon Tedeschi present an example of the peak of Classical poise and elegance, a prize-winning British Phantasy and a passionate, French Romantic work.  In K 493, Mozart balances the piano and string trio as distinct, often conversational, sub-ensembles.  In the Phantasy, Bridge blends structural solidity with French-influenced romanticism to produce a work that Benjamin Britten described as “sonorous with lucidity”.  Fauré’s Opus 15 is one of his most famous and popular early chamber works, marked by a youthful intensity and dramatic power.
